FROM PULLMAN — The new year also signals the beginning of Pac-12 play, with Washington State playing is conference opener against Washington on Saturday. WSU coach Ken Bone and players are available to the media later this afternoon, and we'll have more then. But we do have some links this morning. Read on.


We can't find anything of note to link on the WSU front. … Stanford stood tall for the Pac-12 yesterday, defeating Wisconsin, 20-14, in the Rose Bowl. If Oregon can beat Kansas State in the Fiest Bowl, the conference will finish with a 4-4 bowl record. … USC's coach needs to look in the mirror when assessing what went wrong with the Trojans' season. … Oregon is defined by its ability to live in the moment, a trait that will be challenged this week with Chip Kelly rumors swirling.

In Pac-12 basketball news … A few Pac-12 previews as league play begins. … Utah has a tall task in its Pac-12 opener against Arizona State tonight (7 p.m., Pac-12 Networks). The game will feature a battle of brothers. … Kevin Parrom has found his niche as Arizona's sixth man. … California picked up a commitment from a notable name. … Colorado's top player says he won't make a decision on his NBA future anytime soon.
