Bone says Moore dismissed for a violation of team rules

PULLMAN – Washington State announced Monday that senior point guard Reggie Moore, the team’s third-leading scorer last season, has been dismissed by men’s basketball coach Ken Bone for a violation of team rules.

Moore, a Seattle native who led the Pac-12 in assists per game last season with 5.2, would have returned as WSU’s starting point guard.

“Reggie has been an important part of the basketball program for the last three years, and I wish him the very best in the future,” Bone said in a statement.

Bone declined further comment through a spokesperson. Attempts to reach Moore were unsuccessful. On his Twitter account, Moore wrote shortly before the announcement: “Rock bottom.”

In his three-year WSU career, Moore averaged 10.7 points and 4.4 assists per game. He started 91 of 96 career games, including 35 of 37 last season when he was named All-Pac-12 honorable mention.

Moore also played a career-high 33.1 minutes per game in 2011-12, a reflection of WSU’s lack of point guard depth.

It’s unclear who will replace Moore in the backcourt. Sophomore DaVonte Lacy, sophomore Royce Woolridge and senior Mike Ladd are all options, though none have much point guard experience at the collegiate level. Lacy, who started 30 of 37 games as a freshman, is the most experienced of the group.

Moore served a one-game suspension in 2010-11 after an arrest for possession of marijuana.
