Picking up the pieces after ASU

COUGARS

FROM PHOENIX — It's on to Kansas City later this evening to meet up with the basketball team for its games in the CBE Classic on Monday and Tuesday, but before we do that, we have our usual recap of Saturday's happenings. Read on.

In the newspaper this morning, you'll find our game story, our notebook, our scoring summary and our keys to the game. On the blog, we had plenty of video, plus our usual tale of the tape. … Bud Withers had a column and a notebook in The Seattle Times. … Howie Stalwick had this story in the Kitsap Sun. … Arizona State is ready for its rivalry game against Arizona. … ASU is bowl eligible but there's no guarantees yet. … It was a dominant win for the Sun Devils.

Elsewhere in the Pac-12 …

Stanford 17, Oregon 14 — You might have heard about this one. There was big-time redemption for a young kicker, and big-time disappointment for a Ducks team headed by a nervous coach.

UCLA 38, USC 28 — The Pac-12 South division championship belongs to the Bruins, who have come a long way since their 50-0 loss to the Trojans last season. The loss apparently won't cost Lane Kiffin his job.

Washington 38, Colorado 3 — Keith Price bounced back from a bad first half to throw five touchdowns, and the Huskies are on a winning streak longer than any since 2001.

Oregon State 62, California 14 — Nice of the Bears to show up in what might have been Jeff Tedford's final game as Cal's coach. OSU dominated, quite simply.

Arizona 34, Utah 24 — The Wildcats jumped around and earned their seventh win with a strong fourth quarter. Utah won't be playing in a bowl game this season.

There was one basketball game yesterday — Washington beat Seton Hall, 84-73, in overtime.

All for now.
