Williams limited; other practice notes

Wide receiver Dominique Williams was limited in practice on Tuesday after missing much of the latter portion of the Cal game for undisclosed reasons. Williams has been one of WSU's most explosive players this season … Backup QB Austin Apodaca had an impressive practice. The redshirt freshman only missed two passes combined in the skeleton and team drills, and couldn't be blamed for his lone interception … Daquawn Brown continued to run with the first team at cornerback, and had a nice pick off fellow freshman Tyler Bruggman.

The offensive line was impressive on Saturday, giving up just one sack in 68 drop backs by quarterback Connor Halliday. After practice we had a chance to talk to offensive line coach Clay McGuire to get his thoughts from the game.

(On the offensive line's performance)

Our goal is to never give up any sacks, and if you look back at that play we probably shouldn't have given that up either. It wasn't something where we got beat, we just got pushed back and the quarterback had to step up into a place where there was nothing to be had.

(Could we see Matt Goetz start at right guard again this week?)

Yeah that's quite possible. One thing we talked about was how compared to last year we've got a lot of depth right now. Competition made us so much better throughout the spring and fall camp and all that. That's what we're going to do, we felt coming into last week we needed to go out there and have better practices and the competition factor has really done that.

(Has Goetz gotten more consistent in practice?)

That's the thing, he's a good football player. He understands the game and can do some stuff pretty good. But that's the thing. When you come out here and put somebody's back against the wall, they usually respond. And he responded really well, came out worked really hard and had a good weekd of practice and that's why he played well in the game.
