Wednesday Practice Notes

Dominique Williams returned to practice on Wednesday, and you'd never know he left. That's good news for the Cougars, who regain the services of one of their most explosive wide receivers. The offense carried the day for WSU with starting quarterback Connor Halliday and backup Austin Apodaca looking sharp. We got a chance to catch up with coach Mike Leach and defensive line coach Joe Salave'a after practice, read on for the interview.

Defensive Line Coach Joe Salave'a:

(How to get pressure against OSU's good offensive line?)

"We've just got to play hard and fight to get him. That's the challenge every week."

(What are the strengths  of the Beavers' o-line?)

"They're sound, they're sound technically and they're sound fundamentally. Those two things you can always hang your hat on and that's something that as a group we're starting to become."

(What are your thoughts on former WSU football player Jack Thompson getting inducted into the Polynesisan Football Hall of Fame?)

"That's awesome. Kudos to Jack, Jack's one of the pioneers. One of the older guys that paved the way for the young guys."

Head Coach Mike Leach:

(How to get pressure against OSU's offensive line?)

Yeah they're a good line, they were a good line last year so we've just got to play the best we can. [OSU QB Sean Mannion] is a good, experienced player. A little mobile, kind of a strong arm.

(Is OSU a program WSU can emulate in terms of toughness and execution?)

Yeah, some. We've just got to worry about ourselves. We don't worry about them we've just got to play the best we can play.

(How has OSU gotten so successful passing theball?)

Experience. They've played at home a lot so that can help, and I think a lot of that started last year for them.

(What are the differences between OSU and Cal's offenses?)

They're more of a play-action team. A play-action, move the pocket team. Cal drop backs, they'll drop back and maybe fake some stuff.

It might. It certainly doesn't hurt. If you get a few offseasons and summers together it helps.
