Former Bruin heading to WSU?

The news that former Bruin Aaron Porter appears to be transferring to Washington State has been out for awhile but I'm just now getting to it after helping out with some preps coverage elsewhere. But in case you missed it this afternoon, WazzuWatch's Britton Ransford is reporting ($) that the former UCLA football player plans to enroll at WSU after attending Cerritos Community College this fall.

If and when Porter does enroll at WSU he will have two years of eligibility remaining.

We've got more on the alleged newest Cougar below the fold.

Porter was a highly-regarded linebacker recruit coming out of California's La Habra HS, and claimed scholarship offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Washington, and others, in addition to UCLA. He'll be reunited with high school teammate Brett Bartolone in Pullman. He apparently switched from linebacker to fullback after arriving at UCLA, but didn't see action in any games according to the school and left the team early last spring.

Chris Foster of the LA Times says that Porter was believed to be "working through academic issues" before leaving UCLA.

It is unknown at this time whether Porter would play offense or defense at WSU, but he would appear to have a quicker path to the field as a linebacker and it is unlikely the Cougars would bring in a two-year player unless the coaches thought he was likely to play. Because Porter is attending community college before enrolling at WSU he is likely still a recruitable athlete, meaning we probably won't get a comment from the coaches for awhile.
