Statement: As your Senator, I will work to reduce class sizes and improve our schools.  Making sure that every child receives a quality education is the paramount duty of our state.  The Legislature has undertaken a review of the state’s antiquated funding formulas.  I will continue to support that effort and will work to secure the resources our schools need.

I will continue to fight to protect our quality of life through improving transit and protecting the environment. As your Senator, I will focus on enacting a Clean Water Act to restore and protect our rivers, streams and Puget Sound.

In 2009 I spearheaded reform of the payday lending industry to prevent families from being swept into the debt trap that payday loans can become.  In 2010, I secured protections for homeowners seeking mortgage modifications. I will continue to champion improved consumer protection.
