M 2011 Idaho General Election

Derec Aujay

A candidate for Council Seat 3, City of Coeur d'Alene in the 2011 Idaho General Election

City: Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

Occupation: student

On this race: Aujay, 41, was motivated to run for City Council out of opposition to the McEuen Field project. He thinks the project will result in his taxes being raised. He said the recession would end more quickly “if government would just get out of the way and let the free market economy do its job.” He said something “seems fishy” about urban renewal but acknowledges he doesn’t know much about it. He’s also unsure he has time to be a councilman but said the council needs “free thinking,” which he offers. “I don’t want to spend any more of the people’s’ money than absolutely necessary. People work hard for their money.”
