John Bruning

A candidate for Council Seat 5, City of Coeur d'Alene in the 2011 Idaho General Election

Occupation: Retired U.S. Forest Service administrator

On this race:

The incumbent first-term councilman also served on the city’s planning and zoning commission for 25 years. Bruning, 66, wants the city to continue in the positive direction it’s going. He wants to protect the trees on the city’s levee from being cut, as the Army Corps of Engineers is demanding for stabilization. He said two things attract businesses to the area: educational opportunities and quality of life. Supporting the education corridor, the McEuen Field remake and Kootenai Health’s new medical residency program fill that bill. Bruning would also like to improve East Sherman Avenue to make it an appealing gateway for the community. “The main thing is to overcome the negativity and keep us going on a positive track. We’re on a roll here and I don’t want to turn around.”
