Ben Stuckart

A candidate for City Council President, City of Spokane in the 2011 Washington General Election

Age: 46

Occupation: Incumbent council president

His Words: “A balanced government is important. It forces both sides more towards the middle and creates a better Spokane for all our citizens. I believe the current council and mayor make each other stronger.”

His Pitch: Under his leadership on the council, the city has enacted a 20-year plan to maintain streets, a six-year plan for city capital projects and a targeted investment strategy to renovate diminished parts of town. Stuckart also helped persuade voters to approve a plan to renovate Riverfront Park, and the city made strides in its work to keep pollutants from entering the river. His second term will focus on economic development, he says.

Notable Experience: Incumbent council president. Former executive director of Communities in Schools of Spokane County. Former regional manager at TicketsWest, 2001 to 2007. Spokesman for the 2010 campaign in support of the Children’s Investment Fund initiative, which was rejected by voters.

Education: Graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1990. Bachelor’s degree in political science from Gonzaga University in 2000. Master’s degree in organizational leadership from Gonzaga University in 2006.
