At least the Eagles have just one game to prepare for this week, but they’ll need to tighten their defense to avoid their first 0-for-3 start in league play in five years under Hayford. Last weekend, Northern Colorado and North Dakota shot a combined 69 for 120 (57.5 percent) dropping the Eagles to 344th out of 351 DI schools in field goal-percentage defense. The more intriguing matchup is at the other end of the floor, where EWU averages 80.0 ppg (second in the conference) and 10th nationally in 3-pointers (10.5 per game). Idaho has won five straight on the strength of a defense that holds opponents to 64.6 points a game.
