Monday’s 76-65 victory over Portland State couldn’t have come at a better time for the Eastern Washington Eagles (5-15 overall and 3-7 in the Sky), who in one night moved from the cellar to within a game of seventh place and a spot in the Big Sky Conference postseason tournament. In the process, the Eagles ended a four-game losing streak in front of a vocal crowd of 1,214. T-birds soar over Eagles
CEDAR CITY, Utah – Wade Collie scored 18 points, grabbed nine rebounds and Southern Utah jumped out to an 11-2 lead to begin the game and never looked back, defeating Eastern Washington 69-55 on Saturday night. Southern Utah (7-12, 5-5 Big Sky) had two others in double figures against the Eagles with Damon Heuir tossing in 17 points and Jackson Stevenett chipping in with 16 points and six rebounds. COMING UP: Saturday at Southern Utah, 6 p.m. OUTLOOK: The Eagles take on the Big Sky Conference leader in rebounding and blocked shots when they travel to Cedar City, Utah, in the first Big Sky Conference meeting between the two schools. Eastern will be trying to snap a three-game losing streak. Southern Utah leads the league and ranks 20th in NCAA Division I in blocked shots (5.4 per game), and is first in the league in rebounds per game (38.0) and second in rebounding margin (plus-4.7). The team’s biggest player is 6-foot-11, 250-pound Jason Cheesman, who averages 6.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.31 blocked shots per game (second in the Big Sky and 37th nationally). Read more

GREELEY, Colo. – Freshman Venky Jois tied the Eastern Washington record with seven blocked shots but the Eagles still couldn’t overcome Northern Colorado, which defeated the Eagles 72-56 in a Big Sky Conference men’s basketball game on Saturday night. Jois also led the Eagles (4-14, 2-6) with 15 points and eight rebounds. Collin Chiverton added 13 points for Eastern Washington and Parker Kelly had 11. Short-handed Eagles beaten
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota defeated Eastern Washington 65-47 in a Big Sky Conference men’s basketball game on Thursday night with the visiting Eagles missing two players – senior starting guards Kevin Winford and Jeffrey Forbes – after an auto accident. According to a school media release, the two were injured Wednesday in Grand Forks in an accident involving one of the team’s minivans. Read more

Tonight’s game against conference newcomer North Dakota is the Eagles’ first trip to Grand Forks since 1982. Last week, North Dakota got a career-high 23 from junior guard Jamal Webb in a convincing 86-73 win over Montana State – the team that beat EWU in overtime the week before. Chiverton leads Eagles’ win
Collin Chiverton scored 22 points and Venky Jois had 14 points and 14 rebounds as Eastern Washington defeated Northern Arizona 82-59 Thursday night in Cheney. Martin Seiferth added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles and Thomas Reuter had seven assists. Eastern Washington committed 19 turnovers and shot just 8 of 20 from the free-throw line, but overcame that by hitting 8 of 17 3-pointers and shooting 50 percent overall. Read more
