Autumn in the Purcells
Three choice hiking routes lead from one mountain road in the Purcell Mountains of British Columbia to a blaze of autumn glory in late September and early October. These photos illustrate some of the highlights waiting hikers who trek into Monica Meadows, Jumbo Pass and Macbeth Ice Fields off the Glacier Creek forestry road northeast of Kaslo and Kootenay Lake. Outdoors editor Rich Landers hiked all three routes in a two-day hiking feast for the eyes and feet.
