The Mississippi River rises to levels not seen in Memphis since the 1930s, swamping low-lying areas and driving hundreds of people from their homes. But authorities are confident the levees protecting the city and some of the music town’s biggest landmarks, including Graceland and Beale Street, would hold back the river, which is expected to crest as early as Monday night.
