2011 Washington Legislature

The 2011 Washington Legislature began with a bad economic outlook that got worse. As budget discussions stretched into the spring and required an extra 30 days, they featured bipartisan deal-making in the Senate, although not so much in the House. The prospect of a budget that cut programs rather than raising taxes brought protesters to the Capitol demanding a different course; some of the priorities changed, the bottom line did not. It was an all-cuts budget that passed the Legislature this week.
