Dani Demmons ride an electrically assisted mountain bike on Monday July 16, 2018. Demmons leads Schweitzer Mountain Resort's hosted e-bike mountain bike tours. The two-hour tour takes participants on a roughly 10-mile loop and is perfect for people new to biking or who aren't in the best shape.

Chilean President Michelle Bachelet signed on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, decrees creating vast new national parks using lands donated by Tompkins Conservation, a U.S. organization, that includes Pumalin Park. Its believed to be the largest private donation of land ever from a private entity to a country.

OPB reports that a bill approved by the House Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018 changes the Marine Mammal Protection Act to lift some of the restrictions on killing sea lions to protect salmon and steelhead in the Columbia River and its tributaries. The measure had previously passed the Senate.

In this April 19, 2005, photo, a Canada lynx heads into the Rio Grande National Forest after being released near Creede, Colo. Wildlife advocates want a federal judge to force the government to move more quickly on a recovery plan for imperiled Canada lynx. The U.S. government declared the snow-loving big cats a threatened species across the Lower 48 states in 2000. But officials haven’t come up with a mandated recovery plan.

A federal report says gray wolves killed a record number of livestock in Wyoming in 2016, and wildlife managers responded by killing a record number of wolves that were responsible. Miller, the prolific outdoor filmmaker who for decades made homages to the skiing life that he narrated with his own humorous style, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, at his home on Orcas Island, Wash., his family said. He was 93. A World War II veteran, ski racer, surfer and sailor, Miller produced more than 500 films on a variety of outdoor activities. However it was his ski films for which he was most known.
