Located one hour from Coeur d’Alene, Lookout Pass opened in 1935. The local ski pioneers chose Lookout Pass because of the abundant snowfall and excellent snow quality which they could access by jumping on the Northern Pacific railcars. According to the website, Lookout Pass has operated every winter season since 1935 averaging 400 inches per year. Lookout pass has 540 acres of skiable terrain and 1,150 feet of vertical drop. The runs are 20% beginner, 50% intermediate, 20% advanced, and 10% expert. Lookout pass has four lifts, three doubles and a triple. A new front side terrain park, “Exit 0”, with rails, banks, mounds and launches has also been added. Lookout’s free ski school for kids starts early January and runs through mid-March.
