Indians beat Boise in 11 innings

BOISE – The Spokane Indians scored three runs in the 11th to knock off the Boise Hawks 5-2 in 11 innings in a Northwest League baseball game Monday night at Memorial Stadium.

Janluis Castro’s no-out single scored what would prove to be the winning run after Marcus Greene opened the inning reaching base on an error and Cam Schiller moved him to third on a single.

The Indians (23-22) moved a game above .500 for the season and 3-4 in the second half.

After a pitching change, Chris Garia padded Spokane’s lead in the 11th with a triple, knocking in two runs.

Spokane was cruising right along as starting pitcher Kelvin Vasquez and reliever Eric Brooks held the Hawks (24-21) hitless the first six innings.

The Indians had a 2-0 lead before Boise squared the score at 2-2 in the eighth.

Spokane’s Michael Zouzalik (2-0) got the win with three innings of hitless relief.

Schiller put Spokane ahead 1-0 in the fourth with an RBI single.

In the eighth, Ryan Cordell put Spokane up 2-0 with a homer.

The series concludes tonight. Spokane returns home on Wednesday to begin a five-game series against Salem-Keizer that will take the teams to the All-Star game break. The All-Star game will be played Tuesday in Everett.
