About the Book Club

Welcome to The Spokesman-Review's Online Book Club. Here's how it works:

Each month we'll choose a book for club members to read and discuss. On the first Sunday of the month we'll post a review of the featured book by Spokesman-Review Book Editor Dan Webster and, depending on the selection, either a feature on the author or an author interview (with brief audio clips when available).

Club members will be invited to join by filling out a simple enrollment form (just click where it says "Join the Book Club"). Members will be informed about future club activities and will be able to help choose future books. Anyone, however, will be able to post a capsule review (250 words maximum). Edited selections of the reviews that we receive will be posted online, and the best written of them will be published monthly in the InLife section of The Spokesman-Review.

In addition, the site includes links to area bookstores, author Web sites, audio-book sites, best-seller information, regional literary events, reference sites, sites devoted to writing. And more.

As the club develops, we have plans to hold online forums and even live chats with authors, publishers, booksellers, critics or anyone else who has something interesting to say.

Finally, since the Inland Northwest is a region rich with literary talent, we've chosen to begin by stressing regional writers. November's inaugural author, David James Duncan, has lived in Portland and now resides in Montana. December's author, Tim Egan, grew up in Spokane.
