Unions improve quality of life

Your editorial on Jan. 29 contained many inaccuracies. First, the act is the called the Employee Free Choice Act, not the Employee “Fair” Choice Act. Second, the act does not prevent employees from having a secret election.
While it is true if a majority support the union the employer would have to recognize the union as the employees’ representative, what you failed to mention is if 30 percent of the employees request an election, one has to be held.

In your own words you stated that unions “provided a better standard of living for the working class.” We have clearly seen what the erosion of union density has done to the middle class in this country. The Employee Free Choice Act is an opportunity for workers to have a union without interference from their employer.
