Logic backs single payer
Single-payer health coverage is easily the lowest cost and is the only available-to-all national health care plan. The Bill Moyers Journal on May 22 devoted the hour to this one issue.
The logic for single payer is irrefutable, and Congress is scheduled to make a decision on health care by the end of August as health care is a budget-buster, so action is required. Single payer has an overhead of 2 or 3 percent while the insurance industry’s overhead is close to 30 percent. Past and current insurance industry practices are to emphasize coverage to healthy people AND to use many devious actions to either deny or minimize payments to claimants.
The Moyers report said that 60 percent of Americans favor single payer. Because of the huge profits from their health care plans, the insurance industry is already spending millions to push their own “voluntary” plan. The primary recipients of these millions are YOUR elected congressional officials. For details on the Moyers report go to pbs.org on the Internet.
The only way Congress will legislate single payer is if the American public lobbies, and lobbies hard.
