Cheney bond fiscally sound
This February, Cheney residents will decide on a bond proposal to replace the middle school, build an additional middle school and a new elementary.
Many of us are weary of bonds, etc. Before I decide I do my homework, then ask: 1. Do we need it? 2. How much is it going to cost me? I am fiscally conservative, regardless of the cause, but the answers are clear: Yes, we need it, and no, it won’t raise taxes.
Cheney Middle School is overcrowded, designed for 700 students, yet serving 905. We need another elementary. Cheney population is increasing; three of the four elementary schools have portables.
This will not raise taxes; because of increased population the cost is diluted, and a current levy charge is expiring. This bond will be at or below the current tax rate $4.96 per $1,000 of valaution — for three schools. Those are the facts, but please do your own homework and vote yes. Call the Cheney School District office for more information, 559-4599.
