Lanting to focus on nature photos

Frans Lanting, photographer in residence for National Geographic and one of the world’s finest nature photographers, is the headliner for this year’s spring photography seminar sponsored by the Spokane Camera Club and Photographic Society of America.

The two-day event, open to the public, is March 28-29 at Spokane Falls Community College.

Lanting will make a full-day presentation on March 28. Cost: $85, includes choice of March 29 field trips.

Rafters flip over this class

The annual Flip Clinic & Safety Seminar sponsored by the Northwest Whitewater Association is set for next Sunday, 10:30-noon, in the warm indoor waters of the Valley YMCA.

Cost: $25, for non-members, includes 2009 NWA membership.

“This is a great way to get comfortable learning how to right a flipped boat in nice conditions, before you’re wondering what to do on Class III or IV water,” said Paul Delaney, club spokesman.

The clinic is required for all NWA members planning to join the club’s spring trip to the Lochsa River.


Slide show recalls Himalaya trips

What: Free slide program on travel, hiking and cultural adventures in the Himalaya from 1968 to 2008.
