In this May 30, 1989 file photo, the portrait of Mao Zedong overs Tiananmen Square faces off a statue dubbed “The Goddess of Democracy” by students from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, who modeled it after the Statue of Liberty during the student protest on Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Over the past three decades of US and China relationship, the two countries have gone through ups and downs in the relationship. The most serious blow to ties, say U.S. observers, came with China’s crackdown in June 1989 on student-led demonstrations in Tiananmen Square. (AP Photo/Jeff Widener, File)
