Where do you suppose these wily raccoons were prowling at 6:15 this morning? In downtown Spokane, no less, on roofs of the Metro Mall, Sprague and Monroe, and adjoining buildings. Chronicle photographer Clint Watkins took these shots of the notorious thieves who will eat just about anything and, apparently, will go just about anywhere in the search of food. The two plump, masked critters eventually scrambled down the corner of the downtown office building and, presumably, safely wandered back to more familiar haunts along the nearby riverbank. Other raccoons were spotted on the South side. Photo Archive/ Spokesman Review
