The first “Little Orphan Annie” strip from Aug. 5, 1924, written and illustrated by creator Harold Gray. The strip later was renamed simply “Annie.” Tribune Media Services announced last month that it will cease syndication of the strip today. The company plans to pursue new possibilities in graphic novels, film and television, games and digital media.
