Big cornices, deep snow and a lot of avalanche danger still to come were found recently by Jim Mellen, right, and other Friends of the Scotchman Peaks Wilderness as they used backcountry skis to carefully explore the Goat Mountain area northeast of Lake Pend Oreille recently.
