Metaline Falls, below the town of the same name, showed up for the first time in 27 years on Sept. 11 during a maintenance project at Boundary Dam. The Pend Oreille River reservoir level was lowered from a normal high of 1,990 feet elevation down to 1,959 feet, exposing the falls, which are upstream about 11 miles from the dam.
