Slither and yon: Cowlitz County Animal Control Supervisor Mike Nicholson uses a metal rod to hold an 8-foot anaconda at the Cowlitz County Humane Society in Longview, Wash., on Thursday. Three snakes had temporarily escaped from a Longview home Tuesday. Animal control officers arrived after the owner had rounded up a 6-foot Burmese python, the anaconda and a 10-foot boa constrictor. Officers took the snakes and returned the boa and python but kept the anaconda because it’s considered too dangerous. Nicholson said it could grow to hundreds of pounds.
