Tribal ritual: A tribal canoe is maneuvered into position after being welcomed by members of the Muckleshoot Tribe on their arrival Wednesday at Seattle’s Alki Beach. The landing of about a dozen canoes from the south was one leg of the annual journey of tribal canoes from throughout the Salish Sea, heading to Swinomish, Wash. About 100 tribal canoes are expected to arrive there on Monday. Go to spokesman.com/picture-stories for more photos.
