Salmon protection: Laurinda Hill, with the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission, carries her shotgun loaded with firecrackers as her boat patrols for sea lions on the Columbia River near Bonneville Dam on Tuesday near Stevenson, Wash. The commission is authorized to use loud noise or pyrotechnics to deter sea lions that eat salmon at the first dam along the Columbia River.
