Nearby residents raised the question about the light brown algae bloom happening along the southern shore of Fernan Lake, prompting the Department of Environmental Quality to begin testing on it. A spokesman for the DEQ said Tuesday, July 24, 2007 it is likely a bloom of blue-green algae, but testing is needed to see if it is a cause for alarm or restrictions on swimming or fishing.
