A ruffed grouse regularly joined Pete Renkert near his Priest River-area home for 2 1/2 years. Renkert named the grouse Loretta, thinking it was a female that took a liking to him. Turns out, the grouse was a male, but the name stuck. Experts say it was being territorial before becoming a pal.
