To avoid compromising his night vision, Patrick Graham with Defenders of Wildlife uses a red LED on his headlamp to check a map while bivouacked on a ridge near Adrian Alvarado Baldeon’s herd of sheep on Sept. 10 near Sun Valley, Idaho. Graham spends many nights near sheep herds, employing nonviolent means such as air horns, searchlights and fladry to deter the Pioneer Pack from attacking.
