Taking the initiative: After being told to evacuate his home by Spokane police officers, Austyn Holm, 15, stuffed some clothes into his backpack and grabbed a hose to water his yard as a field fire burned at the corner of North Pearl Street and East Sharp Avenue near his home across the street Sunday morning in Spokane. The fire started near a metal Dumpster and came close to a Gonzaga University warehouse on the north end of the field. Crews protected the building and let the fire consume the fuel in the field.
