The caption reads “Sweet clover and alfalfa at the Thomas Elsom place south and east of Greenacres. Mrs. Elsom and children and S.J. Mariner are shown in the picture. Mr. S.J. Mariner is holding a sweet clover plant which had no better chance than the alfalfa in which he is standing. Sweet clover has made three times as much growth as alfalfa on the same kind of soil. This particular field was on light sandy soil where the wind frequently blew the soil about. Photo taken June 9, 1916.”
