Supporting athletes: Former Idaho Special Olympics Team member Loretta Lyon, of Rathdrum, carries the Olympic torch along with Idaho State Police Trooper Allan Ashby at Riverstone Park in Coeur d’Alene on Thursday. Lyon was part of the Special Olympics golf team that went to Greece in 2011. North Idaho law enforcement officers initiated the ceremonial “Torch Run” to coincide with Special Olympics festivities that traditionally take place in Southern Idaho. Officers from throughout North Idaho, including city, state, county, federal and tribal, also participate in the Torch Run to show support to more than 2,700 athletes statewide.
