Rep. Maxine Bell, R-Rupert, is shown on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in her offices in the Capitol in Boise. She’s holding a print of her hometown, Logan, Utah. Bell left there at the age of eight, following her father’s death from cancer. Back in Idaho, her mother worked nights at a local hotel in Twin Falls, while Maxine took care of her younger brother and sister. “I’d put the children to bed,” she says quietly. “Those things happen.”
