Snow blankets Oregon: University of Oregon student Nitasha Alvarez makes her way through the campus in Eugene as a new round of snow descends on the Willamette Valley on Friday. A second winter storm in two days bore down on Oregon and southwestern Washington, this one topped with ice that made roads more treacherous. The Oregon State Police said a female passenger was killed in a single-vehicle crash on icy Interstate 84 in the Columbia River Gorge on Friday afternoon. The male driver was seriously injured. No names were immediately released. Police said highway conditions in the area about 30 miles east of Portland were “extremely bad,” with blowing snow and winds gusting to 35 mph. Troopers reported multiple crashes on the highway.
