Cleanup time: Volunteers from the group Friends of the Bluff remove trash and food items from a man-sized cave dug by a homeless camper in the hillside below High Drive in Spokane on Sunday. The camper had spread a brown tarp over the hole and camouflaged it with leaves, but hikers spotted an elaborate transient camp near hiking trails and notified police, who asked the man to leave. The camp was on a section of privately owned land. Once the camper was gone, volunteers removed garbage and filled in the cave and fire pits.
