Long-range lessons: Olympic shooter Amanda Furrer, 23, flew into Spokane recently to be with family and celebrate being named to the 2014 U.S. Women’s World Championship Shooting Team. Furrer’s dad, Michael, who still coaches the Spokane Junior Rifle Team in which Amanda got her start, snapped this photo of Amanda giving her niece and nephews a few pointers with the ol’ Daisy BB gun in the family’s backyard. “This is where it starts,” he said, noting that the kids were casual and having fun but also in control with safety in mind. Michael already had taken the kids over to the garage in the background to show them the two dimples in the door where Amanda missed the target by 2 feet with her first pellet gun shots when she was their age.
