Ken Vanden Heuvel, Newman Lake: March 15-16 was an unforgettable weekend! At the perfect campsite, in view of Engle Peak in the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness, I nailed Edward Abbey’s quote: “May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.” More photos to follow, but for now, I am exhausted. This was a 4,000-foot climb on snowshoes with a 50-pound pack.
