The Iditarod Trail passes over the high escarpment of the Blueberry Hills, which lie between Unalakleet and Shaktoolik. Immediately prior to dropping from the higher country and onto the beach, this view presents itself. This long, narrow spit leading 15 miles off into the distance leads to Shaktoolik. This spit separates the frozen ocean to the west (left) from the land/fresh water to the east (right). The trail follows the spit toward the north. Josh Rindal of Spokane and Bob Jones of Kettle Falls were snowmobiling 1,400-miles along the route of Alaska's famous Iditarod Sled Dog Race in March 2014.
