In this 2006 photo, Cowiche rancher Gail Thornton moves some of his cattle through a portion of Tieton Cattle Association property that Thornton’s family has grazed for more than a half-century. The property was recently acquired by the state wildlife department, which will honor Thornton’s grazing lease for another five years.
