Interactive graphics: Police audit
The graphics below were produced with data from the Spokane Police Department Special Investigations Unit acquired by The Spokesman-Review through a public records request. The data show expenditures by the unit using funds from seized and forfeited possessions, including cash.
Detailed expenditures were derived from public records that included purchases from 1991-94, and 1996-97. The entire 1995 file was missing. From 1998-August 2008, the information regarding the detailed items was provided by the Washington State Auditor's Office.

Within these, yet smaller rectangles designate the total amount spent for a certain subcategory.
