    GSL basketball teams end league

    Attached above is a brief video interview I did Thursday with Central Valley girls basketball coach Freddie Rehkow. NOTE: The North Central boys go to Mt. Spokane on Saturday in a play-in game to see which team goes to No. 2 seed Shadle Park on Tuesday in a District 8 3A opener. Tipoff Saturday at Mt. Spokane is 7:30.

    The Gonzaga Prep boys basketball team shared the ball on the final night of the Greater Spokane League regular season Thursday. The Bullpups finished with 20 assists as Gonzaga Prep cruised past the visiting North Central Indians 67-31.

  • Ferris boys, girls win at Rubber Chicken games

    Sophomore Cody Benzel was 3 for 3 from 3-point range and scored nine of his 13 points in the first half as the Ferris Saxons built a 15-point first-half lead in their 63-46 victory over the Lewis and Clark Tigers in the Rubber Chicken game on Wednesday night at the Arena. The game was the Greater Spokane League regular-season finale for both teams. Chase Haack led Ferris (14-6, 12-6) with 21 points, scoring 19 in the second half. He added 12 rebounds.

    The man who put Sandpoint football on the map in the state of Idaho is returning, and he has plans to take the Bulldogs to loftier heights. Satinia Puailoa, 56, led Sandpoint to a state championship in 1997 and runner-up finish in 2003 before stepping down.

    The Coeur d'Alene girls basketball team captured the 5A Region I tournament championship, 50-22, over Post Falls. In the photo above, taken on my company Iphone, is Coeur d'Alene junior guard Caelyn Orlandi, who had a team-high 14 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Here's the link to my game story.     The Gonzaga Prep girls basketball team secured second place Tuesday in the Greater Spokane League. The visiting Bullpups outscored the Mt. Spokane Wildcats 21-4 in the deciding second quarter as Gonzaga Prep pulled away 61-49.

    Colfax and Northwest Christian both won Tuesday night and finished in a tie for second place in the Bi-County 2B League. After a third-quarter meltdown, the Bulldogs regrouped and held off visiting Davenport 55-48. Rachel Robinson scored 12 points for Colfax.

    Brandon Kohler made a layup with 0.4 seconds left and Reardan won 59-57 at St. George’s on Tuesday on the final night of the regular season in the Bi-County 2B League. The win, coupled with Davenport’s loss to Colfax, gave the Indians (12-8, 11-5) sole possession of third place.

The Greater Spokane League and Great Northern League boys and girls basketball teams conclude regular-season play this week before launching into district tournaments next week.     This day is perfect

    A GRIP ON SPORTS When I awoke this morning, something felt different. No, the knees still hurt. And the waistline hadn't shrunk. But something was strange. Was the sun actually brighter? Were the birds really chirping louder? Did the air seem fresher? Yes. It is Super Bowl Sunday, when a Disney-like aura surrounds everyone in the world. I almost broke into song. Read on.
