The Coeur d'Alene girls basketball team captured the 5A Region I tournament championship, 50-22, over Post Falls. In the photo above, taken on my company Iphone, is Coeur d'Alene junior guard Caelyn Orlandi, who had a team-high 14 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Here's the link to my game story.
The Central Valley boys captured the school's first Greater Spokane League championship since 1999. Correspondent Vince Grippi was on hand to file this story. The Gonzaga Prep girls locked up second place. Here's our area girls roundup and here's our area boys roundup.

Not sure that G-Prep has clinched second in the GSL, definitely a tie for second but not second all by themselves. If they win their last game against NC, then yes. But if they lose and any/all of the three teams that are one game behind them win, won’t there be a tie for second? And a quick look at the individual games throughout the year shows that G-Prep, U-Hi, Shadle and Mead beat up on each other, trading wins so there doesn’t seem to be a clear cut second when looking at head to head. Should be an interesting last game of the regular season.

G-Prep Boys have at least a tie for 2nd place in 4A. (AKA the Major Leagues) I don’t know if there would be a playoff for 2nd place or what the tie-breaker criteria is.
G-Prep Girls have at least a tie for 2nd place in 4A Ditto as to paragraph one.
Sorry to diss 3A. But if Mead can “man up” and opt up to 4A, there is no reason why UH, SP and MTS can’t. Sorry to sound like a broken record, but the school boards, Principals and AD’s are the prime offenders in maintaining too many WIAA classifications.

yeah Al, my point was that the text says that G-Prep girls have locked up second place which I’m processing as sole possession of when in reality they have locked up at least a tie for second place at this point. They win, and they have second to themselves, they lose and there will be a tie for second.

You are right, Brady. I was just mentioning that if you don’t win the title, all that you really care about is playoff position.

agreed Al, which is intertwined with truly holding second outright or being tied with some kind of convoluted tiebreaker system
