Moonset taken from my deck
Photographer: Steve Feider
Caught this mid-July in early evening. I had been trying since spring to capture the in-flight bluebird that lives below my upper deck. Lots of shots of it and it's mate sitting on branches, but this was just luck. It had been bringing food back to the nest. Every time I step onto the deck, he flies away in a protective arch. It's been five years since the bluebirds nested under my deck and I hope they keep returning. They join the yellow finches, hummingbirds, doves, robins and sparrows that captivate my yard.

My dad and I spent a night taking pictures on Tolmie Peak at Mount Rainier National Park. To the west we could see the lights of Tacoma and outline of Lake Taps. To the south we saw Mount St. Helens and the glow of Olympia. To the east we saw Mount Rainier and smoke from the fires in Vantage. It was a windy but magical night under the stars. This photo shows my dad, also named Craig Goodwin, taking pictures of the mountain. If you look close you can see stars reflected in the windows of the lookout building.
