Your Outdoors Photos: March 2019

The Inland Northwest is full of flora, fauna, waters, scenery and active people out to savor it all. Please visit this gallery regularly to share photos of your wild experiences, learning moments, hot discoveries, favorite trips. Help us build a visual tour of what's so great about the outdoors in this region through all four seasons. This photo gallery will be an inspiration to some people. To others it will be a reminder of why we love to live here -- and get outside as much as possible.

NOTE: Before photos show up in the reader photo gallery, they must be approved by an editor. If yours does not show up immediately, fear not. The only likely delay is that an editor has not had a chance to approve new photo submissions yet. Thanks for participating!

  • This is a Lazuli bunting the name comes from a stone that comes from Afghanistan of all places it is one of the most beautiful birds that migrate to our region for the summer because of the time that we are in at the moment I have been spending more time in the backyard photographing birds three of these beautiful birds came to our backyard in Cheney on May 9 2020

  • This White -crowned Sparrow along with a few friends showed up in our Cheney backyard right on time around the second week in April. Always a good sign to see them.

  • Barrel Roll. Most Turnbull NWR visitors have never seen the huge, beautiful Trumpeter Swans doing barrel rolls in the water! Supposedly they’re taking a bath, but you can’t watch it without thinking they’re having fun! Taken on March 22nd.

  • Looking My Way. This Trumpeter Swan was preening herself on the ice and twisting her neck like a pretzel at Middle Pine Lake, Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge on Friday, the 22nd . The Trumpeter cygnet beside her was stretching her not-yet-white wings, and together they made a humorously undignified picture!
