The temperature was 98 degrees and climbing but the drum line stood fast and practiced in the blazing sun for three and one half hours. Like the kids say, if this was any easier it would be football.
I spent one full day with the members of the Spokane Thunder Drum and Bugle Corps as they prepare for a swing down the West Coast to participate in competitions. Yea, the kids knew it would be hot, but I didn’t hear a single complaint. They all wanted to be there at Centennial Middle School in Spokane Valley, Washington. And they all wanted to get better at their game.
It was like a boot camp. They stretched, they ran, they were drilled in their groups by instructors who demanded perfection. Most were up to the task. Those who weren’t, just keep repeating the song or the color guard routine until they could give no more. Then they tried again.
They will perform for your pleasure 7pm, July 27 at Central Valley High School.
